Cody R Wilson has figured out how to print a semi-automatic rifle from the comfort of his own home. Now he’s putting all the information online so that others will join him.

This is a story about the rapid evolution of a technology that has forced the American legal system to play catch up. Cody Wilson, a 25 year old University of Texas Law student, is an advocate for the open source production of firearms using 3D printing technology. This makes him a highly controversial figure on both sides of the gun control issue. MOTHERBOARD sat down with Cody in Austin, Texas to talk about the constitution, the legal system, and to watch him make and test-fire a 3D-printed gun.

If they ban firearms , there will still be mass shootings and murders. If killing is illegal and people still do it, what makes you think they wont illegally get a firearm?

If i wanted a gun to commit murder i can get one going through the whole process legally then load up any gun and kill people which these bans dont realize that baning hi cap carbine mags will only make carbines non applicable what about a pistol or hunting rifle. not to mention the caliber of most "assault weapons" is smaller than most hunting rifle so its not scary to have a hunting rifle why a "assault weapon" as its just scary because of its look a 30/30 has more killing potential and does kill more anually then an AR-15 which AR's only acount for roughly 1 percent of shootings but do to its tactical look is frowned upon when every part doesn't make it dangerous but actually safer to use the barrel sheath and flash suppressor are meant to decrease recoil and prevent your hand from burning when properly using said fire arm in its meant to be used state

You can make a gun without a 3D-printer with readily available tools. People build guns in huts in 3rd world countries every day.

If guns kill people then spoons make people fat.

The genie is out of the bottle when it comes to 3D printers and scanners. Add access to the internet and possibilities are endless. The gang bangers, drug cartels, mass shooters and terrorists aren't the ones printing up guns, just normal people. Remember McVeigh and the Oklahoma IRS bombing? Haven't read anything about regulating the amount of chemicals you can buy at one time. No doubt a small majority of Americans would literally like no one to have any gun that fires more than one round with you then having to reload or better yet, ban all guns so only the police/military have them. Look how well that's turned out for those who lived in Germany/Russia rom the 30's onward, then to what's happening in Venezuela, Mexico, etc. today.

I live in Brazil A country that created a law to leave the honest citizen disarmed creating a big bureaucracy To get a weapon,We are the most restrictive country to have weapons in latin america behind Venezuela only,And yet we have 60,000 deaths a year. The bandits are still armed stealing more safely, gun control just make my country more violent Do not fall in this bullshit of gun control (sorry for my english)

I say, If you have a permit, and are smart you can print guns. You're qualified, and know what's right from wrong — I think. So, I'm with Cody.

Who is this liberal faggots Jew from the New York Times? What gives him the authority to talk on gun issues.

this is terrifying. absolutely terrifying. When people say "you can kill people with anything, like a spoon or a rope" those things have different intended uses. Guns are made to kill things and there is no reason that an average citizen needs to have one. It's disrespectful to be that apathetic about Sandy Hook and other similar shootings. These are events we should learn from. Guns are dangerous weapons that cause a lot of irreparable damage. Putting restrictions on guns doesn't blame the GUN, it makes the general public safer by keeping guns out of the hands of dangerous people.

All of these issues are understandable, from both sides of the gun argument, but the fact remains that there are better things to devote your life to, to have "visions" about, than firearms. Me? I don't have a horse in this race. My indifference is sealed. I just buy my popcorn, and take my front row seat at the Circus show.
