History's Guns: Patton's Guns | Shooting USA

Видео

General George S. Patton was the most famous American tank commander in World War Two. He was a leader with a reputation for courage, boldness, and brashness, and he both commanded big guns, and carried big guns as his personal signature. Many of those weapons are housed at the Patton Museum in Fort Knox, Kentucky, including his prized sidearm, the Model 27 Smith & Wesson double-action revolver, complete with ivory grips engraved with Patton’s initials.

«I have Patton’s Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum, which he bought in Hawaii in 1935. He ordered it from Smith & Wesson, and they delivered it there,» says Patton Museum Curator, Charles Lemons. «We always consider this a very well-known piece of history. Truthfully, I’m always afraid of dropping it!»

Patton paid $60 for the blued Model 27. Patton was known to call it his «killing gun.» Other firearms owned by Patton are also housed in the museum, including his silver-plated Colt .45 single-action Peacemaker, and his distinctive 1911.
